100-year-old man arrested for possessing Cannabis sativa in Malawi
During a search of his home, police discovered two pails filled with cannabis sativa.
Malawi: Police in Mzimba district have arrested a 100-year-old man for allegedly possessing Cannabis sativa without the necessary documentation.
According to the Mzimba Police Station Spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Peter Botha, the man has been identified as Stanley Gondwe, and was arrested on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at his home in the district of Manyamula.
The police detectives were conducting a raid in the area on the day and were later tipped off by well-wishers that the old man Gondwe was keeping illicit drugs at his house.
During a search of his home, police discovered two pails filled with cannabis sativa.
The elderly man was detained on the spot and taken to Mzimba Police Station, where a case of being found in possession of Indian hemp without a permit was opened.
He is scheduled to appear in court soon to answer the charge brought against him.
Stanley Gondwe is from Mzimba District's Jam Kalua Village Traditional M'mbelwa.
