2022 JCE exam results out with pass rate of 73%

Malawi: The Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) has released the results of the 2022 Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examination, with a 73.07% pass rate compared to 76.01% last year.

Secretary for Education Chikondano Mussa announced the results, stating that a total of 159,964 candidates registered for the 2022 examination, but only 154, 495 candidates sat for the examination and 112,897 candidates passed, representing 73.0 per cent.

Mussa said: "There were 79,595 female students and 80,369 male students among the total number of students registered. And, of the total number of students who sat for the exams, 77,484 were females, 56,056 passed representing 68.47%, a decrease from 71.40% last year, and 77,011 were males, 59,841 passed representing 77.7%, a decrease from 80.41% last year."

“We had a total of 970 Special Needs Education (SNE) candidates sit for this examination, with 685 passing (70.62%). 317 of the 433 SNE male candidates passed, representing 73.21%, while 368 of the 537 SNE female candidates passed, representing 68.53%.”

Mussa said that, in accordance with her miinistr’s policy, students who performed well in community day secondary schools will be selected to fill the spaces left by those who failed the exams in district boarding and national secondary schools.

"You may have noticed that with the pass rate that I announced from our results, those who failed have created spaces in the schools where they were going. The selection for these positions will be based on merit, "she stated.

Students are expected to return to school in October 2022. Boarders should report to schools on Monday, October 17, 2022, and day scholars should report on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.
