43-Year-Old Woman Attacked by Crocodile in Nsanje

A 43-year-old woman was attacked by a crocodile on Monday while crossing a stream from her garden in the area of Senior Chief Malemia in Nsanje-Cornelius Lupenga.

Malawi — A 43-year-old woman was attacked by a crocodile on Monday while crossing a stream from her garden in the area of Senior Chief Malemia in Nsanje, writes Cornelius Lupenga.

According to the Nsanje Police Station Public Relations Officer Sub-Inspector Agnes Zalakoma, the victim, Mika Lampi from Lundu village, was reported missing on Tuesday by her husband, Manuel Meki.

Zalakoma said that the victim had gone to light a fire in their maize garden at around 6:00 pm in an effort to scare away the hippopotamuses that were devastating their crops.

An hour later, on her way back while crossing the same stream, she was attacked by a crocodile and disappeared.

Search efforts to rescue the victim are still in progress, according to the publicist. The incident has left the community in shock and fear, as crocodile attacks are not uncommon in the area.

Crocodiles are one of the most dangerous predators in Africa and are known to attack humans who venture too close to their habitats.

The incident serves as a reminder of the need for caution when living in close proximity to wild animals.
