ACB arrests former Immigration Department Director General Elvis Thodi

MALAWI: The Anti-Corruption Bureau-ACB has this morning arrested former Immigration Department Director General Elvis Thodi in connection with alleged corrupt practises in the procurement of uniforms.

The ACB has also arrested the Department Deputy Director Limbani Chawinga on the same allegations.

The arrests come a day after the nabbing of businessman Abdul Karim Batatawala over allegations of corruption in the procurement of uniforms and other accessories for the immigration department.

Sources at the ACB say Thodi was picked from Lilongwe and is being transferred to Blantyre.

The Bureau is meanwhile expected to release an official statement on the arrests.

The corrupt practices are alleged to have been committed between 2009 and 2012.
