AFORD President Donates Amenities to Cyclone Freddy Survivors in Chikwawa Camps
AFORD President Enock Kazingeni Chihana donates amenities to Cyclone Freddy survivors at Mapelera Camp in Chikwawa on March 18, writes Comfort Bulangete.
Malawi-Enock Kazingeni Chihana, the president of the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) political party, donated various amenities to Cyclone Freddy survivors at Mapelera Camp in Chikwawa on March 18, 2023, writes Comfort Bulangete.
In an interview with AfricaBrief, Chihana expressed his support for the people of Chikwawa during this trying moment, as many have had to leave their homes and are now staying in camps due to the damage caused by tropical cyclone Freddy last week.
"I hope this little will assist them," he said.
Senior group Chang'ambika thanked Chihana for the support, saying the donation has come at the right time.
However, he also appealed for more donors to come forward with additional support as people in the camp need food, tents, and clean water.
Chihana also expressed his appreciation for the extent of the damage caused by the cyclone in the Shire Valley district of Chikwawa.
Currently, the Chikwawa district has recorded five deaths, with 12,368 people affected and 8,837 people displaced and housed in 21 camps.
