Airtel Money launches payment of services via OR Code scanning
"It also allows customers to send money to others by simply scanning the OR code displayed on the recipient's mobile device."
Malawi: Airtel Money officially launched a new service for paying for goods on Tuesday, September 20 2022 as a way of improving its pro-convenience streak with the introduction of a new payment feature that enables customers to pay for goods and services by scanning an OR Code for a registered outlet.
According to Airtelmoney Director Brighton Banda, the service will allow customers, particularly those who use smartphones, to easily sort out their bills by scanning them at the till.
"The new scan and pay feature has been integrated into my Airtel mobile app and allows payment for goods and services at merchants such as groceries, supermarkets, and restaurants," he explained.
"It also allows customers to send money to others by simply scanning the OR code displayed on the recipient's mobile device."
The new scan and pay feature will improve customer convenience by significantly reducing the time required to transact when compared to other models of payment that require memorised shortcodes and multiple steps.
