ARMY COMMANDER BEMOANS POLITICAL INTERFERENCE IN MDF

MALAWI: Malawi Defense Force (MDF) Army Commander Major General Vincent Nundwe has advised officers to stop lobbying for rank promotion from politicians, saying it is uncalled for since the MDF follows proper channels when it comes to promotions.

The Army Commander said this on Saturday in Salima at Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO) during the commissioning of 151 officer cadets and pass-out parade for 1,055 recruits.

Army Commander said, “Some soldiers lobby for rank promotion from politicians and this must stop. To you politicians, stop engaging such people because we follow a commanding element when promoting our officers, not political interference."

Nundwe also trashed reports making rounds on social media that MDF soldiers want to go on strike.

He said that Malawian soldiers are disciplined enough and cannot do that because when they have challenges they report directly to the Commander-in-Chief who is the President.

He, therefore, urged social media users to act responsibly to avoid posting irrelevant things that can spike up violence in the country.

While admitting that the officers also participate during the elections period, Nundwe said MDF should not be taken as a campaigning tool as it is there to uphold the sovereignty and social welfare of this nation.

Notable officials during the event were the MDF Commander-in-Chief President Lazarus Chakwera, Vice President Dr.Saulos Klaus Chilima, and Deputy Minister of Defense Jean Sendeza.
