The Asians Association of Maravi (AAM) has made a donation of MK3 million to the Malawi Police Service (MPS) towards the centenary celebration of the service.

The Asians Association of Maravi (AAM) has made a donation of MK3 million to the Malawi Police Service (MPS) towards the centenary celebration of the service.

MPS clocks 100 years this year and the service is scheduled to hold the celebration next month.

Speaking when handing over the cheque to the Inspector General of police, representative of AAM Jayesh Patel discribed MPS as a key partner of the Asian community in the country.

"The police is a friend in need for the Asian community and we are proud to support the forth coming celebrations marking 100 years. We believe this donation will cement further the relationship between our community and the police," said Jayesh.

On his part, Inspector General of Police Dr. George Kainja expressed delight with the donation urging other communities to emulate the good gesture.

"I am so glad to receive this donation from AAM. These centenary celebrations mean alot to the service as we reflect on the journey that began in 1921 as the Nyasaland police. The donation from AAM is timely and will go towards preparations of the event," he said.
