ASUD HANDS OVER HIV/AIDS FACILITY TO COMMUNITY
In a bid to ensure communities live healthy lives, Action for Sustainable Development (ASUD), with support from World Connect, has handed over an ART Centre at Nkhorongon Health Centre in Mzuzu.
MALAWI: In a bid to ensure communities live healthy lives, Action for Sustainable Development (ASUD), with support from World Connect, has handed over an Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Centre at Nkhorongo Health Centre in Mzuzu.
ASUD Executive Director, Thomas Ngwira, said that they constructed the centre to allow patients living with HIV/Aids access medical attention, counseling, and feeding programme for children in and around Nkhorongo.
“Through the assessment that we conducted, it was concluded that there was a need for a health facility, particularly to scale up ART services hence World Connect provided funding,” he said.
A nurse at the new facility, Joyce Mfune, said they are already seeing the fruits as patients who had defaulted treatment have now resumed the same.
“Until recently, our ART centre was located within the administration block of this health facility and this saw most patients shunning it. The new centre is now convenient for our patients,” she said.
World Connect Country Director Frank Charles Katsonga emphasized that only a healthy community can ably contribute to the development of any country.
