Bicycle taxi operator arrested for defiling his master's daughter

MALAWI: Police at Kawale in Lilongwe have arrested a 20-year-old Kabaza (bicycle taxi) operator, Ospino Maxwell Enock, for allegedly defiling his 15-year-old master's daughter, according to PRO-Kawale Police Station Sub Inspector Mabvuto Phiri.

On April 5, 2022, the suspect committed the crime in Mtande Village, near the Kamuzu Barracks Range Forest on the outskirts of Kang'oma.

According to reports, the suspect worked as a Kabaza (bicycle taxi) operator and was sent to the maize mill by his employer on this particular day, accompanied by the victim, his employer's daughter.

The ride to Kang'oma Trading Centre went well, but on the way back, the rider stopped at a nearby bush between Kamuzu Barracks Range and their village.

The suspect dragged the girl and defiled her before being rescued by a passing man.

When Enock was caught in the act, he sensed danger and offered the man money to silence him; however, his efforts were futile because the matter was brought to the attention of the parents, who filed a report with Kang'oma Police.

The victim was given a referral report for examination at Kang'oma Health Centre, where the results were found to be positive.

Detectives from Kang'oma and Area 23 Police worked together to apprehend him.

The suspect is from Chidamlodza Village in Lilongwe's Traditional Authority Tsabango, and he will appear in court soon to answer a charge of defilement in violation of Section 137 of the Penal Code.
