Blantyre Press Club Urges Public to Support Cyclone Freddy Survivors in Southern Malawi

Malawi- Blantyre Press Club, a group of journalists, has made an appeal to the public to support the victims of Cyclone Freddy in some districts in the Southern Region of Malawi, writes Comfort Bulangete.

The group has asked for donations of various amenities to provide basic necessities to those affected by the natural disaster.

According to Blessings Kanache, the president of the Blantyre Press Club, thousands of people have been affected by Cyclone Freddy, particularly in Blantyre, Chikwawa, and Nsanje districts.

Women, children, and people with disabilities are among the displaced population who require immediate assistance.

"As Blantyre Press Club, we would like to assist them," said Kanache.

"We have witnessed with our own eyes the extent of damage caused by Cyclone Freddy in the southern part of Malawi."

Kanache also pointed out that there has been a rise in the number of flood survivors in the region due to Cyclone Freddy, and the situation in the camps where they are staying is not good.

Therefore, the group needs more support to ease their lives.

"We are calling for donations in the form of clothes, plates, bathing basins, cooking utensils, soap, maize, varieties of relish, cash, and building materials," added Kanache.

"We hope that by providing these amenities, including building materials, we can assist those whose houses were swept away by the floods due to Cyclone Freddy."

The group emphasized that the donations would help the survivors stay in the camps no longer than was necessary.

"We would like to urge the public to support us in any way possible to help the victims of Cyclone Freddy," concluded Kanache.
