Catholic Diocese of Dedza Launches Solar Power Supply Project at Dzenza Community Day Secondary School

Malawi-The Catholic Diocese of Dedza has launched a solar power supply project at its Dzenza Community Day Secondary School in Kasina to support students in their studies, writes Brenard Mwanza.

The launch event, which took place on Saturday, was attended by several officials, including Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola and Deputy Minister of Education Nancy Chaola Mdooko.

Matola praised the Catholic Church for promoting education and providing students with vital resources, such as power, to excel in their studies.

"It is encouraging to note that stakeholders such as the Catholic Church are reaching this far in promoting education by helping students with the power that is so vital when it comes to studies, more especially science subjects that are so key in achieving the Malawi 2063 agenda," he said.

The project was funded by the Sopowerful Foundation, and Father Joseph Biliati, Dedza diocesan Pastoral secretary, expressed his gratitude for their timely support.

"This support will take the students a very long way in scoring best grades during national exams in particular, as they will now have access to light for studying," he said.

Sopowerful Foundation Executive Director Stefano Cruccu pledged to provide piped water in the area, although he did not promise to provide similar support to other schools.

In addition, the school has called for more support in finalizing a girls' hostel project to accommodate more girls who currently have to walk long distances to attend the school.
