CDEDI wants answers on why Sattar wasn't arrested while in MW in March
CDEDI "believes" that Malawians are entitled to an explanation as to why Sattar was not arrested or summoned for questioning during his visit to the country.
MALAWI: The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) has written to the Minister of Homeland Security, Jean Sendeza, inquiring about Zuneth Sattar's visit to Malawi.
A letter signed by CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa and addressed to the Minister of Homeland Security on May 26, 2022, also challenged ACB Director Martha Chizuma to keep Malawians up to date on the status of the investigation into Sattar and his associate.
According to CDEDI, ACB has been investigating the high-profile case of businessman Sattar, who is suspected of being involved in a corruption scandal, for nine months.
Sattar, who appeared before the Uxbridge Magistrate Court in London, UK, travelled to Malawi from March 16 to March 25, 2022, but was arrested at Heathrow Airport on his return to the UK.
According to the letter, CDEDI believes that Malawians are entitled to an explanation as to why Sattar was not arrested or summoned for questioning during his visit to the country.
Namiwa has requested that the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, as well as the director-general of ACB, to provide concrete reasons on why Sattar was not arrested.
CDEDI has also openly challenged ACB director Martha Chizuma to keep Malawians up to date on the status of the investigation into Mr Sattar and his associates.
