Chakwera calls on Malawians to join his government in bringing to fruition agreements made at Davos, Malabo
“I am glad to inform you that we have made strides in soliciting key interventions in public health in line with investments around health equity,” said Chakwera.
Malawi: Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera says he expects Malawians to join his government in "bringing to fruition all the issues, agreements, and policy determinations reached at all the fora I and my delegation attended."
The president spoke on Sunday 29 May 2022, after returning from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and the African Union summits in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
“In Davos, I joined over 2,500 global leaders in politics, business, arts and media in discussing and navigating solutions to a range of problems that are affecting economies around the world,” he said.
“These include post-Covid 19 economic recovery, war in Eastern Europe and climate change among others.”
Chakwera stated that Malawi's presence at the forum provided an opportunity to outline our position within the discussion centred on 'Building Economies in Fragile Markets.'
“I am glad to inform you that we have made strides in soliciting key interventions in public health in line with investments around health equity,” said Chakwera.
He stated that he attended the official launch of 'An Accord for a Healthier World,' a Pfizer Inc. initiative that will see the company provide 23 patented medicines and vaccines to Malawi on a non-profit basis.
Following Davos, the president stated that he would travel to Equatorial Guinea to attend the 15th Extraordinary Summit Meeting of the African Union Humanitarian Matters and Pledging Conference, where African leaders consolidated efforts in resource mobilisation and strategies to address the continent's humanitarian challenges.
He said: “I also attended the 16th Extraordinary Summit Meeting of the African Union on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government that focused on sustainable solutions to restore constitutionalism on the continent and fight terrorism on the continent.”
Chakwera also stated that he used the Davos and Malabo events to hold several key bilateral meetings with a variety of global and African leaders in order to align on a number of issues pertaining to Malawi's socio-economic development.
“Now that I am back, I expect you fellow Malawians to join your government in bringing to fruition all the issues, agreements and policy determinations that have been reached at all the fora I and my delegation attended,” he said.
