Chikwawa & Dôa police of Mozambique agree on security move
On August 29, 2022, Chikwawa Police Station hosted its Mozambican counterpart after the two had experienced some ups and downs within their borders.
Malawi: Officer-in-Charge of Chikwawa Police Station, Assistant Commissioner, Alex Simenti, has reached an agreement with his Mozambican counterpart on security issues that will benefit residents of Chikwawa and Dôa.
On August 29, 2022, Chikwawa Police Station hosted its Mozambican counterpart after the two had experienced some ups and downs within their borders.
Officer in Charge Chikwawa bemoaned the prevalence of human trafficking across the border, where people are persuaded to travel to Mozambique in search of greener pastures, which leads to child labour and early marriages.
However, Simenti urged the creation of a good communication environment so that tracing perpetrators within the two districts would be easier.
Mozambique's Commandant for Dôa Police Superintendent Joo Armindo Joo urged Malawians travelling to Mozambique to take chartered routes, citing conflicts in Cabodelgado and the risk of being labelled as terrorists.
Furthermore, Armindo stated that there is an increase in livestock theft, specifically cattle, whereby people steal them and enter Malawi for sale, and he urged good communication between Dôa and the Chikwawa Police Station in order to curtail the syndrome.
The two police formations have agreed that they must cooperate in their operations in order to keep the borders safe by increasing either day or night patrols.
