Malawi: To promote quality education in the Shire Valley district of Chikwawa, education authorities in the district held an event on December 29, 2022, to award the best-performing teachers and schools, writes Comfort Bulangete.
The ceremony, which took place at Chikwawa Primary School, recognized teachers who had demonstrated excellence in teaching, supervision, and commitment in the 2021–2022 academic year.
The Director of Education, Youth, and Sports for the Chikwawa District Education Office, Hendrix Likeke, stated that the awards were meant to motivate the teachers and hoped that their efforts would improve the performance of learners in the district in the coming year.
Elita Gopani, a teacher at Mitole Primary School, received the award for best overall teacher in the district. She attributed her success to hard work and encouraged her fellow teachers to do the same.
The guest of honour, Chikwawa North Constituency Member of Parliament Owen Chomanika, applauded the director's efforts and promised to support the initiative by lobbying for the welfare of teachers and seeking additional funds.
Mitole Primary School was also awarded the title of best overall primary school in the district for its outstanding performance on the Standard 8 national exams.
The event was attended by all the teachers in the district.
