Chikwawa, Malawi— The K10 million Konzere Zonal Trophy finals, sponsored by Chikwawa South Lawmaker Illias Abudal Karim, have been postponed due to conflicts amongst the participating teams in the zone, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
The announcement was made by Karim during the finals held on Sunday at Rabu Catholic Primary School ground.
Karim expressed disappointment in the bad behaviour displayed by some of the teams during the zonal matches.
"Misunderstandings amongst the clubs forced the organizing committee to postpone the finals," he said, while also citing tropical cyclone Freddy as a contributing factor to the delay.
However, the zonal finals were eventually played peacefully, much to the delight of the parliamentarian.
"I am now impressed with the behaviour I have witnessed today where some officials from bigger clubs were around to poach young talents," Karim said.
Patrick Mtasa, the Sports Director for Chikwawa South, revealed that a total of 128 football teams from the five zones in the constituency participated in the Illias Abudal Karim K10 million Kwacha across Chikwawa South constituency. Only Konzere Zone had 16 teams that participated in the trophy.
During the final match, Konzere Football Club emerged victorious after defeating Vega Football Club by two goals to one.
The winning team received K350,000 in cash, a trophy, and jerseys, while the losing team received K250,000 in cash and a jersey.
