Chikwawa South MP pledges to rehabilitate cyclone-damaged infrastructure
Chikwawa South Parliamentarian Illias Abudal Karim has vowed to restore damaged infrastructure in his constituency caused by Tropical Cyclone Freddy, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Chikwawa, Malawi-Chikwawa South Parliamentarian Illias Abudal Karim has vowed to restore damaged infrastructure in his constituency caused by Tropical Cyclone Freddy, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
During a visit to Group Village Headman Rabu in Traditional Authority Masache on Sunday, Karim acknowledged that the damage has led to challenges for residents in the area.
"My main focus is to bring back all the destroyed infrastructure to operational status. I am going to use the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for the work," he said.
Residents have reported that bridges and roads have been severely damaged, making travel difficult.
Group Village Headman Rabu said the bridges at Rabu and Phandadzinja are in bad condition, forcing locals to find alternative routes.
Karim's pledge was welcomed by Councilor Amos Chabe, who praised the lawmaker's commitment to development projects in the area.
"The MP has already promised to bring bags of cement to complete the construction of the headteacher's office at Rabu Catholic Primary School by Friday this week," said Chabe.
Karim also noted the effects of the cyclone on the area's food security, saying that damaged gardens have left many residents without access to food.
"I will do everything within my power to ensure that the people of Chikwawa South get all the necessary support they need to rebuild their lives," he added.
