China Implements Stricter Rules for Foreigners Visiting Tibet from Nepal

Kathmandu, Nepal - Foreigners planning to visit the Tibet Autonomous Region face additional requirements, as reported by openpr.com on May 12.

In addition to obtaining a special permit along with their China visa, tourists must now form groups to tour the region.

Furthermore, the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu has strengthened the review process for the China Group Visa, particularly for those crossing over from Nepal.

The Chinese Group Visa is a crucial document issued by the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu for foreign tourists entering Tibet from Nepal.

With this visa, travellers can acquire the Tibet Travel Permit from the Tibet Tourism Bureau, allowing them to follow a predetermined itinerary while exploring Tibet.

In the past, tourists in Kathmandu could easily apply for a Chinese Group Visa through travel agencies, with a relatively lenient review process that did not require applicants to be present in person.

The visa often contained only one traveller actually going to Tibet, as the verification of applicants on the list was not individually conducted.

However, starting in April 2023, according to travel agencies in Nepal cited in the report, the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu has implemented stricter reviews for this type of visa.

Now, groups must consist of a minimum of five applicants.

Additionally, applicants must undergo an interview at the embassy and have their fingerprints taken.
