Civic Education Hubs to Assist in Implementing Malawi2063

NSANJE, Malawi — The Ministry of Local Government, Unity, and Culture says the induction of civic education hubs will assist in educating the public in their localities and bring about a mindset change in the implementation of the Malawi 2063 Agenda across the country, writes Cornelius Lupenga.

Deputy Director for Civic Education in the Ministry, Lawrence Useni made the remarks on Wednesday at Magoti Extension Planning Area (EPA) during a day-long training for the Traditional Authority Mbenje Area Development Committee (ADC) in Nsanje.

Useni said it was high time that the committee was imparted with the knowledge to work effectively.

He acknowledged that there had been some minor challenges that delayed the induction of the civic education hubs at the traditional authority levels.

“The Mbenje Committee had already started working on their action plan, which they submitted to the ministry,” he said.

The deputy director said the Civic Education Hubs at the T/A levels comprise extension workers in sectors such as agriculture, education, health, and civil society organizations (CSOs).

“The voices of these workers are taken as a powerful tool that the communities easily hear and adhere to,” said Useni.

Eric Navaya, Chairperson for T/A Mbenje Civic Education Hub, said the training had been an eye-opener. “We are going to reach out to hard-to-reach areas across Senior Chief Mbenje in Nsanje,” he said.

Civic Education Hub activities are being undertaken in 8 districts of Malawi: Nsanje, Phalombe, Machinga, Zomba, Kasungu, Nkhotakota, Nkhata Bay, and Karonga.
