Coalition for Women and Girls Empowerment trains village agents to reduce gender violence in Mzimba

Malawi: The Coalition for Women and Girls Empowerment (CEWAG) is working to end gender violence among women and girls in TA Mzikubola, Mzimba district by training village agents on business management and empowering them to manage and develop their families, writes Alinafe Sambo.

According to Beatrice Mateyo, executive director for CEWAG, it is essential for women to be self-sufficient so they can meet their own needs, run their own businesses, and make decisions without facing challenges.

This, in turn, will reduce cases of gender-based violence, said Mateyo.

One beneficiary, Mestina Mphepo, stated that she has greatly benefited from the training and has seen improvements in her business.

She is now able to make decisions and handle her business without facing challenges.

Topys Kachere, principal community development officer for M`mbelwa district counsel, also noted that the training has helped a lot of women in the district and they hope that the issues of gender-based violence will be reduced as a result.

He added that the training has helped many women to plan for their own businesses without copying what their fellow agents are doing.
