Data clerk arrested in connection with disappearance of computer monitors in Nkhata Bay
Police spokesperson Sergeant Kondwani James said the missing items from NkhataBay District Hospital were discovered on September 13, 2022, in the morning.
Malawi: Nkhata Bay police have arrested Blessings Isaley, 38, in connection with the theft of three computer monitors (value not yet determined) from the data storage department where he works as a data clerk.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Kondwani James said the missing items from NkhataBay District Hospital were discovered on September 13, 2022, in the morning.
Madalitso Msolola, the district hospital administrator, the suspect was the last person to use the office on September 12, 2022, before the items went missing.
Further investigation reveals that when the custodian of the keys left for other responsibilities, he left the keys with other officials on duty, but with the assurance that the last person to leave the office must keep the keys and hand them over to him when he returns.
On the specified date, Isaley was the last person to leave the office, but he did not follow this rule because, in his response, he stated that he had left the keys at reception, which the receptionist denied.
He was immediately summoned to the Nkhata Bay Police Station for questioning alongside other officers.
His failure to account for and explain how he handled the keys at the close of business on the relevant date, on the other hand, landed him in police custody.
Meanwhile, the suspect, who is from Msonthe Village in Traditional Authority Kambwiri in Salima District, has already begun appearing in court, where he has denied the charge of servant theft, prompting the state to parade witness (es) in subsequent proceedings.
