Deputy Minister Mdooko inspects Lifidzi M5 road

MALAWI: The Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works, Nancy Chaola Mdooko, Friday inspected Lifidzi Road which was washed away in Salima district.

The Deputy Minister said the country is currently facing challenges, with some bridges and sections of the roads being washed away.

She said the government is working tirelessly to rectify the problem and that people should have patience.

Roads Authority Regional Manager for the central, Joel Longwe, said this rainy season the road has been washed away twice.

He said most of the rivers have taken a different path from their natural way because of land use mostly farming.

Traditional Authority Ndindi said he has been discouraging his subjects from doing farming along the rivers but they are some communities who are continually doing the opposite.

He says he is going to introduce the bylaws to curb away accidents.
