DOG VICTIM TO BE FLOWN TO SA

Once again the case against Dean Van Scavo was moved to the high dependency unit of the Kamuzu Central Hospital Friday afternoon.

One would have easily mistaken the room as a hospital theatre, as the defence lawyer, Mr. George Mwale, and the two prosecutors, Happy Mkandawire and Fatuma Silungwe were all clothed in theatre garbs,

The defence counsel, Mr. George Mwale, continued with his cross-examination which took for almost one hour.

Among others, the defence counsel quizzed the victim whether he was aware that hospital records were showing that he was brought to the Kamuzu Central hospital at around seven PM.

Mr. Sephas Chimdima told the court he heard that on radio, therefore, if he was wrong, then the radio, in his words, ‘lied’.

On whether what Mr. Dean Van Scavo did on that day, by shielding him, was not assign that he wanted to protect him, Mr. Chimdima said all he knows was that Mr. Van Scavo wanted him injured.

After disagreeing on this and other issues, the defence counsel, Mr. George Mwale, told the court that a complete medical report on the victim, particularly his psychological fitness, should be produced before the case continues.

Mr. Mwale said, in the interest of justice, the court should allow the victim to recover fully.

He also asked the court to visit the scene of the accident, to fully appreciate the place.

Meanwhile, the defence counsel says the victim will leave on Monday for the much-needed plastic surgery in South Africa.

Chief Resident Magistrate Chifundo Kachale has adjourned the case to 10 September, 2010.

He further said that he hopes that all medical reports will be available.
