DPP slams President Chakwera's 'empty' national address, calls for action on pressing issues

Malawi: The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has expressed disappointment in President Lazarus Chakwera's end-of-year national address, calling it "empty" and lacking in direction.

In a press statement signed by Shadric Namalomba, spokesperson for the former president of Malawi and president of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), the DPP criticized the lack of decisive action on issues such as the health sector crisis, skyrocketing prices of goods and services.

The party also pointed to the “failing” economy and issues of nepotism and lack of progress in the fulfilment of campaign promises.

In response, the DPP outlined several recommendations for moving the country forward, including reducing the cabinet to a maximum of 20 members and abolishing all deputy ministerial positions.

The party also called for the establishment of a task force to root out corruption and for the prioritization of infrastructure development.

The DPP concluded by calling on President Chakwera to take action and address the suffering of Malawians, rather than continuing with "rhetoric of promises."
