Drug Fight Malawi in anti-drug abuse and illicit trafficking campaign

Malawi: Drug Fight Malawi, a local non-governmental organisation working to combat drug and substance abuse, has launched an outreach campaign to combat drug and substance abuse among students in Malawi's secondary schools, writes Watipaso Mzungu.

Drug-Free World, which conducted a voluntary study, is supporting the school-based drug abuse prevention campaign.

On August 11, 2022, officials from the Drug-Free World interacted with students at Chinsapo Secondary School in the City of Lilongwe as part of their research.

According to Nelson Baziwelo Zakeyu, Executive Director of Drug Fight Malawi, the anti-drug abuse and illicit trafficking campaign will aim to raise awareness among the youth about the dangers of drug and substance abuse.

"The project has already benefited Lilongwe Girls Secondary School, Bwaila, Chipasula, Tsabango, and Chilambula Community Day Secondary Schools." If well supported, the project will reach several secondary schools across the country," Zakeyu said.

"The project's main focus is on those children and young people who should never try to experiment with marijuana or any other forms of drugs because they are like a trap that is difficult to get out of."
