Forget lower public transportation costs: MOAM

Malawi: Minibus Owners Association of Malawi says the general public should not expect lower public transportation costs as a result of the market decline in petrol prices.

Coxley Kamanga, the association's general secretary, stated that even though the price of gasoline has decreased, other vehicles continue to use diesel, which has not yet been adjusted, forcing them to maintain the cost of public transportation.

Kamanga also stated that the current fuel shortage is a challenge for motorists because they are paying exorbitant prices to find fuel.

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) announced a 10.28% decrease in petrol prices on Tuesday, September 14, 2022.

Petrol, which was previously priced at K1946 per litre, will now be priced at K1746; diesel and paraffin prices will remain unchanged at K1920 and K1261 per litre, respectively.
