Game on: Msaka vies for DPP presidency
Msaka told the media that after careful consideration, he decided to come out and declare his intentions.
Malawi: Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the Eastern Region, Bright Msaka, has announced his intention to run for president of the party at the party's convention next year.
Msaka made the announcement during a press conference in Lilongwe on Friday.
Msaka told the media that after careful consideration, he decided to come out and declare his intentions.
He claims that in his seven years as the DPP's vice president for the Eastern Region, the party has seen tremendous success and its membership continues to grow.
“The DPP is the largest and strongest party in the country and there is a need to continue building a better party on the solid foundation that the Party's forefathers built on,” said Msaka.
He believes that the DPP will remain intact under the current leadership in the east.
“I believe that with the current strong leadership in the Eastern Region, the DPP still remains strong and intact. Having served various leadership portfolios, i think I am capable of leading the Party,” he added.
The Eastern Region Veep also stated that he is ready to rescue Malawians from the numerous social and economic challenges they are currently facing, claiming that Malawians currently lack leadership.
"The current government is failing. There's no point in stealing a car when you can not drive a car,” he said.
Msaka has also assured DPP members that the party will remain progressive and powerful.
Msaka is the second senior DPP member to openly declare his intention to run for the party's presidency, following southern region veep Kondwani Nankhumwa.
