Government to introduce e-cards for toll gates
This follows rumours on social media platforms that some employees at the Chingeni toll gate are involved in a K25 million corruption scandal.
MALAWI: The government has announced that E-Cards will be introduced a method of payment in all tollgate plazas.
This follows rumors on social media platforms that some employees at the Chingeni toll gate are involved in a K25 million corruption scandal.
Sosten Gwengwe, Minister of Finance, stated that the government intends to install more toll gates on the country's busiest roads in the future, which will help to avoid such scandals in the future.
“It’s a sustainable way of collecting some resources for maintenance of our roads without always depending on governance to help maintain our roads," he said.
He stated that the government will continue to implement more controls in the future, but one of the controls being considered in collaboration with a supplier of the system for our toll gates is the use of E Cards, which will allow people to swipe and proceed without the exchange of cash.
