Government Urged to Prioritize Youth Empowerment in Upcoming Financial Year

Malawi: The Malawi government has been urged to prioritize youth empowerment in its upcoming fiscal year, writes Alinafe Nyanda.

Luso Langa Executive Director, Canon Chenjenzi, speaking during an interview on Thursday, said that the government should consider investing adequately in youth and making funding of the sector a priority while adopting aggressive measures to tackle the country’s youth unemployment crisis.

According to Chenjenzi, there can be no greater priority than setting every youth up for a life of success and safety, saying every young person needs government and stakeholders’ support to achieve a good life.

He also stated that it is worrying to see that the country continues to lag behind in terms of young welfare, such as unemployment, and that as an organization they are on a mission to empower the next generation of impact leaders to become the country’s problem solvers, focusing on the youth in the country most especially in traditional Ndindi in Chipoka, Salima to create sustainable communities by implementing strategies that address the dual crises of youth unemployment and education.

Chenjenzi was speaking on the sidelines of the 2023–24 fiscal year pre-budget consultation meeting, which was held on Wednesday at the Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) in Lilongwe. He urged the government to invest more in youth.
