Healing Hands Int. distributes K18M flour to Mzimba's Manyamula communities

Healing Hands International partnered with Church of Christ to provide K18 million worth of flour to Manyamula communities in Mzimba, addressing local hunger, writes Victor Musongole.

Malawi-Healing Hands International, in collaboration with the Church of Christ, has distributed about K18 million worth of flour to Manyamula communities in Mzimba intending to alleviate hunger in the area, writes Victor Musongole.

About 720 bags of flour were distributed to the area to cushion families during this hunger season as they are embarking on winter cropping.

The distribution is part of the initiative, where groups of over 1000 farmers will cultivate an acre each.

Mbwenu Chirwa, the Country Director of Healing Hands International, said, "The distribution is aimed at cushioning families during this hunger season as we are embarking on winter cropping, where groups will receive support and seeds from Healing Hands and 2 percent will be distributed to elderly people who cannot cultivate.”

Chirwa also said that they will teach people how to make cheap organic fertilizer so that they can produce it cheaply.

Chisomo Mahobe, one of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude towards Healing Hands International and said, "We are grateful to Healing Hands International, and we are ready to do winter cropping as they have indicated that they will support us, we believe with winter cropping, hunger will be history in the area.”

Village Headman Chikwengwe Nkhata also expressed gratitude towards Healing Hands International and promised to make sure that his subjects take part in winter cropping to make sure the community is hunger-free.

In addition to the distribution of flour, Healing Hands International also donated MK 2 million to people affected by Cyclone Freddy and replaced a water pump at Manyamula Hospital.

Healing Hands International and the Church of Christ are implementing several activities in Mzimba, such as organic farming, and women and youth empowerment.
