Heavy rains kill two people, destroy 30 homes in Zomba Chingale constituency
"Due to the heavy rains in the area, many people were injured, more than 30 houses were destroyed, and two people died," Masaula said.
Malawi: Member of Parliament for Zomba Chingale constituency has appealed to well-wishers and other civil society organisations to assist communities and residents in Chingale after heavy rains killed two people and destroyed many homes in the area.
The lawmaker, Ronnie Chijere Phiri, has disclosed that the situation in the area has worsened and that many families are now sleeping in dilapidated houses and using unclean and unsafe water, putting the lives of the communities of Masaula, Chipini, and communities surrounding Chingale in danger of contracting contaminating diseases like cholera.
Meanwhile, Group village headman Masaula said he is deeply concerned about the situation in their area and urged the government to assist the victims as soon as possible through DODMA.
Zomba District Commissioner Smart Gwedemula has acknowledged that they had received complaints and reports Chingale and had sent a team to assess the situation and report the issue to DODMA.
