Henry Mussa and Gideon Munthali sentenced to jail for stealing 10 computers, genset

Malawi - Former Minister of Information Henry Mussa has been sentenced to jail time, alongside former Director of Information Gideon Munthali, for their involvement in the theft of 10 computers and a genset from the Ministry of Information, after their conviction in October last year.

Munthali was sentenced to three years in prison for conspiracy to commit a felony and six years for theft by a public person, while Mussa received a three-year sentence for the offense of conspiracy to steal and six years for the offense of receiving stolen property.

According to the judge's ruling, both their sentences shall run concurrently, starting from the date of their conviction.

The sentencing has been welcomed by the public, with many expressing hope that it will serve as a deterrent to other public officials who may be tempted to engage in corruption and theft of public property.
