Human Rights Ambassadors to hold referendum protests in MW
This comes just a few weeks after the president met with some civil society organisation leaders, who reportedly pledged to opt for engagements rather than demonstrations.
Malawi: A grouping called Human Rights Ambassadors has notified Lilongwe District Council of their intention to hold demonstrations to force a referendum on President Lazarus Chakwela's and Vice President Soulos Chilima's resignation.
According to a statement issued on September 19, 2022, the demonstrations will take place on September 28, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the dress code will be black and white.
The notice, which was signed by the group's chairman and others, also stated that the peaceful demonstrations will take place from Wakawaka M1 Road through Mchesi, Maula roundabout, Paul Kagame Road to Area 47 Interchange to City Center via Parliament Building and Capital Hill to hand over the petition to the President and Cabinet.
