Kanengo WUA for improved potable water supply

Kanengo Water Users Association (WUA) Board Chairperson, Senior Chief Chitukula (Kulilani Bulaimu) has said that his association is committed to improving potable water supply in the area.

MALAWI: Kanengo Water Users Association (WUA) Board Chairperson, Senior Chief Chitukula (Kulilani Bulaimu) has said that his association is committed to improving potable water supply in the areas around Kanengo in Lilongwe city.

He made the remarks on Tuesday during Kanengo WUA Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held at Kabwabwa Secondary School hall situated at Area 25 in Lilongwe.

Senior Chief Chitukula said that Kanengo WUA is dedicated to making sure that people who stay in the areas where the association is working have easy access to potable water.

“Water is life, so our association is very committed to making sure that people in the areas where we are working including Kanengo, Mgona, and Area 25 have easy accesses to clean water.

“In the same way, we want to ensure that people in the areas where we are working are not drinking unhygienic water that would put them at risk of suffering from waterborne diseases such as cholera,” Senior Chief Chitukula said.

He added that currently his association has installed more than 100 water kiosks in its territory and over 70, 000 people from within the territory are benefiting from the kiosks.

He also said that Kanengo WUA is planning to install additional kiosks to cover some parts of its areas where there are insufficient water kiosks.

“As an association, we are looking forward to installing extra kiosks in the areas within our territory such as Yepa and Dzenza where people are struggling to access clean water,” he said.

In his comment, Area 25, Mvunguti Ward Councilor, Maloni Chatewa commended Kanengo WUA for its effort in improving water supply in the areas around Kanengo including at Area 25.

“Kanengo WUA is the only association which is working tirelessly in addressing issues of potable water supply around Kanengo including at Area 25, I can confirm that as of now water supply has absolutely improved in the areas where the association is working and this is commendable,” Chatewa said.

Among other participants, the AGM was patronized by councilors, chiefs, members of Kanengo WUA, and representatives of other WUAs from within Lilongwe.
