Kariba women celebrate International Women's Day in style
Over a hundred women attended the event, including Monica Muchenje, Chairperson of the Women Coalition of Zimbabwe-Kariba Chapter.
ZIMBABWE: Yesterday, the Women Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCOZ) celebrated International Women's Day at Chamunika Stadium in Mahombekombe Kariba.
The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Women's Affairs, the Kariba Municipality, the Zimbabwe Republic Police, and other Kariba-based Community-Based Organizations (CBOs).
Over a hundred women attended the event, including Monica Muchenje, Chairperson of the Women Coalition of Zimbabwe-Kariba Chapter.
“It is important to break the bias and create spaces for women to be more productive and become effective leaders in our communities,” said Muchenje, Chapter Chairperson.
Speaking at the event, Josephine Kufakunesu from the Ministry of Women's Affairs stated that the day recognizes women's voices and takes into account their diversity, various roles, and circumstances in order to support women and girls in all aspects of life.
She also emphasized the importance of gender equality in achieving desired outcomes in today's world.
The Ministry of Women's Affairs encouraged women to take advantage of government loans made available through Empowerbank.
“Women are the most hard-working people in this community if not the nation at large but they are financially disadvantaged for they do unpaid work, it's important for them to utilize the loans being given,” she said.
Women commemorated the occasion by participating in sports such as soccer, netball, and bottle games.
In a modern style, they sang and ruled the day.
