Kawale police tip Biwi skilled artisans on security, SGBV

MALAWI: On Thursday, April 28, 2022, the Kawale Police Station's office of community policing branch had the opportunity to meet skilled artisans of Biwi light industry hub, writes Kawale Police Station PRO, Sub Inspector Mabvuto Phiri.

The meeting, themed “Tiziwane”(let’s know each other), was organized by Biwi Light Industry Association with the goal of knowing a neighbour and doing business in collaboration.

Councilor Felix Tsokonombwe praised the concept and urged leaders to avoid favouritism in its administration.

During the meeting, Inspector Mayeso Chikadza, Kawale community policing coordinator, highlighted security issues, including tips on crime prevention and sexual and gender-based violence.

"When you find money, build your families, and never abuse your wives," Chikadza said.

Chikadza also advised male participants to seek help from other responsible members of society if they were distressed by financial or family issues rather than taking their own lives.

Malani Gondwe, the group's chairman, expressed gratitude for the tips and promised to join law enforcement in the fight against crime and SGBV as people with various skills in Biwi work together to improve their financial situation.

"We will also address issues of dishonesty of some mechanics who tend to give false hopes to their clients; if you know you can't fix a client's car, it's best to say it openly and refer him to someone who can," Gondwe said.

Inspector Edwin Mchekeni and Sub Inspector Malton Kukada were in attendance.

Kukada had ample opportunity earlier on to emphasize the importance of being in groups, citing how this can take them far in life.
