Kawale taxi driver arrested for defilement

Malawi: A tax driver has been detained by Kawale Police for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl, writes Sub Inspector Mabvuto Phiri.

Alex Msiska, 42, was arrested on Friday, July 1, 2022.

According to the report, the suspect took the victim (name withheld) in his car on June 26 this year from Kawale 2 location en-route to Chilinde, and upon reaching Matchansi, he enticed the young girl with K500 and allegedly defiled her inside his car.

Following this incident, the suspect gave the victim his phone number in order to bridge the communication gap.

When the victim arrived home, her mother noticed her failing to walk properly.

When questioned, the girl narrated the entire scenario to her mother, who alerted the police for action.

A medical report was issued to Kamuzu Central Hospital, which revealed positive penetration results.

Kawale detectives launched extensive investigations to track down this unknown tax driver, and through information gathered, the team apprehended Msiska.

Earlier this week, detectives arrested another tax driver, Dickson Makwenda, 27, of Lumwera Village Traditional Authority Kachindamoto in Dedza, for allegedly defiling a young girl who came to Kawale for the first time and got lost, only to meet the suspect who took advantage of the girl, abducted her for two days, and defiled her.

The suspect will appear in court soon to answer a charge of defilement, which is a violation of Penal Code Section 138.
