KUHes to build $1 billion state-of-the-art hospital
Malawi: Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) intends to build a US$1 billion state-of-the-art hospital at Chileka in the city of Blantyre.
Professor MacPherson Malewa, Vice Chancellor of KUHeS, stated that once the hospital is built, it will reduce referral cases to other countries, thereby protecting the country's currency.
Malewa made the remarks on Friday in Blantyre at the start of the University's first Research Dissemination Conference.
He said that higher learning institutions have successfully produced research that has had a national, regional, and global impact.
In her remarks, Education Minister Agnes NyaLonje stated that the conference is so important because it is through research that people find new ways of treating diseases and infections.
Scientists have come up with new medicines for treating various diseases, and knowing this, the ministry of education is currently working closely with the ministry of health by carrying out various interventions to offer their full support to the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS).
The theme of the conference was "Excellence for Life: Through Multidisciplinary Research and Innovation."
