It’s a bright Friday morning at Mponela, one of the growing trading centres in Dowa district.

Already, the place is agog with activities, as residents get busy with their daily chores to make ends meet. For 42-year-old Judith Chakhaza, together with her friends, Loveness Rashid and Elena Chinthemwende, today is an important day as she is supposed to meet with the Branch Manager of Vision Fund, one of the formal financial institutions working in collaboration with Heifer International Malawi to improve farmers’ access to loans.
