LILONGWE POLICE NET SUSPECTS IN DEVIL STREET
Police stormed Devil Street in Lilongwe around nine o’clock Monday morning. It’s notorious as a place of high criminal activity.
Central Region Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Kinglsey Dandaula says they arrested twenty-eight people.
Some people were picked for buying and selling stolen items on the street such as computers and cell phones.
Others, who may have been on the street with no meaningful work or appeared suspicious, were also arrested during the police sweep. They will be charged as rogue and vagabond suspects.
Also rounded up during the sweeping exercise were people suspected of break-ins and illegal entries within the city.
A ZBS source said that most of the police officers were in plain clothing, causing panic among people when the arrests were made along Devil Street.
According to Mr. Dandaula, twenty suspects will appear in court as soon as investigations are completed.
