MACRA to launch National Addressing System

Malawi: The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) says it is set to launch the National Addressing System, which will help with street and property naming, numbering, and coding, among other things.

Daudi Sulemani, Director General for Macra, says the body will begin the National Addressing System (NAS) process in the northern region.

Suleman disclosed this when speaking to the press in Mzuzu on Monday.

Sulemani also stated that it was launched in 2017, but that 6 years later, nothing has been done, and that this is the first step.

Meanwhile, Sulemani stated that representatives from all district councils should enact bylaws to prevent people with bad intentions from vandalising street signs.

Sulemani estimated that the entire process would cost the country 20 billion Malawi Kwacha.

One of the representatives from Blantyre District Council, Frank Chingoka, a statistics officer, stated that if anyone is found vandalising these signs, the law will take its toll at the village, district, and city/town levels.

Macra, which aims to promote the delivery of safe, dependable, secure, and affordable communication services in Malawi through effectiveness, held this meeting with the directors of planning, statistics officers, and representatives from all district councils in the northern region, including Likoma, Chitipa, Karonga, Rumphi, Mzimba, and Nkhata Bay.
