Malawi President Holds Bilateral Meeting with UN Secretary-General

Qatar-Malawi President, Lazarus Chakwera, held a productive bilateral audience with United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, on the sidelines of the 5th LDC Summit of Heads of State.
During the meeting, President Chakwera and Secretary-General Guterres discussed Malawi's tenure as chair of the LDC bloc, which was described as fruitful by the UN Chief.
President Chakwera expressed his admiration for the UN's commendable work in Malawi through its agencies.
Secretary General Guterres expressed his sympathy for the challenges Malawi has faced over the past few years, including the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, and geopolitical strife in Eastern Europe.
He reiterated the UN's commitment to supporting Malawi's economic recovery efforts through various social protection programmes.
"I am delighted that Secretary-General Guterres has shown kindness to Malawi during these turbulent times," said President Chakwera.
"His reassurance of the UN's support for our economic recovery efforts is greatly appreciated."
The meeting between President Chakwera and Secretary-General Guterres highlighted the importance of international partnerships in promoting economic recovery and sustainable development in Malawi.
