Malawi Vows to Punish Teachers Involved in Exam Fee Swindling
Deputy Minister of Education in Malawi, Nancy Chaola Mdooko, has promised that all teachers and administrators who swindled registration and examination fees for Standard 8 learners will be punished.
Blantyre, Malawi-Deputy Minister of Education, Nancy Chaola Mdooko has promised that teachers and administrators who have embezzled examination and registration fees meant for Standard 8 learners who were to sit for Primary School Leaving Certificate Education Examinations will face the full force of the law.
Speaking after visiting several examination centres in the Southern Region, Mdooko assured parents, guardians, and Malawians that the law will take its course and those found guilty will be punished accordingly.
Mdooko addressed this issue, saying, "All teachers who have swindled registration and examination fees for learners will be punished accordingly by the law."
She urged parents and guardians to use the new system of registering and paying examination fees to mitigate such practices. Mdooko's assurance will reassure parents and guardians that the government will not tolerate any corruption in the education sector.
Grace Milner, the Director of Basic Education, expressed satisfaction with this year's examination process, stating, "I am impressed with how this year's examinations were handled."
Milner implored learners to remain focused during this waiting period, saying, "The period for results to be out is long, and learners should not indulge in any practices that may hinder them from furthering their education."
This year, 276,052 candidates sat for the PLSCE examinations, and school authorities misappropriated fees for 120 learners who missed the exams.
The government takes these scams seriously and ensures that all culprits face justice in line with Malawi's legal framework.
