MALAWIAN MOSLEMS CELEBRATE 2011 ZIYARA

Molsems have called upon Malawians to continue giving a helping hand to the vulnerable and orphaned children the country.

Chairperson of Lilongwe Sunni Foundation, Mr. Rafique Gaffar, made the call on Wednesday when Moslems in Lilongwe joined their counterparts worldwide in commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

Parades and prayers were part of the Ziyara celebrations.

On Wednesday thousands of Moslems thronged Muslem Sports club inLilongwe to commemorate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.

Singing and dancing, the joyful Molsems took part in a parade that started from Livimbo School and ended at Moslem Sports club, where the main events took place.

And, in his sermon, Lilongwe Sunni Foundation Chairperson, Mr. Rafique Gaffar, said annually the Moslem community in the country always joins their counterparts worldwide in commemorating the birth of the prophet in his honour.

Mr. Gaffar said the day also gives a chance to the Moslems to reflect on a number of issues including AIDS victims and orphans in the country.

The religious leader also thanked government for religious freedom in the country.

During the occasion, sixty seven students were awarded with certificates after graduating from Institute of Islamic Education and Culture where they were studying Islamic studies.

It is believed that Prophet Muhammad was born in about 570 BC in a city of Mecca in the country now called Saudi Arabi
