Malawi's Health Sector Seeks Morocco's Help in Cyclone Freddy and Cholera Outbreak
Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daud, calls on Morocco to support Malawi's health sector during medical exhibition, writes Abraham Bisayi.
Malawi-Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daud, called on the Moroccan government and people of goodwill to support Malawi's health sector in dealing with the effects of Cyclone Freddy and the cholera outbreak during the 2023 Morocco Medical Exhibition in El Jadida, writes Abraham Bisayi.
Daud emphasized the need for Moroccan experts to assess the requirements to find solutions to the damage caused by both natural disasters.
Over 500,000 people were left homeless due to Cyclone Freddy in March 2023.
Daud urged Moroccan officials to help Malawi reconstruct or renovate damaged health facilities and provide essential medicines, vaccines, and medical devices to affected communities.
"Cyclone Freddy and the cholera pandemic, adding to COVID-19, have stripped the Ministry of its ability to respond to routinely planned activities and services as it diverted a major part of its budgeted resources to counteract the effects of this pandemic, hence, I made this call to the Moroccan officials to help us rebuild," said Daud.
During the exhibition, the King Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema in Rajat City honoured the deputy minister with a prestigious gift.
