Man arrested for alleged incestuous relationship with daughter in Chikwawa

Nsanje, Malawi-A 39-year-old man, Chisomo Thomas, has been arrested in Chikwawa for allegedly having sexual intercourse with his 12-year-old biological daughter, writes Cornelius Lupenga.

Chikwawa Police Station Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Dickson Matemba, said that the father had been separated from his wife and had been staying with their daughter.

Matemba added that the father used to show pornographic movies from his phone to his daughter and later defiled her in the process.

"The girl, who is a Standard 4 learner, disclosed the act of her parent to some locals, who took the matter to Chikwawa Police, hence the nabbing of the father," Matemba said.

Upon arrival at the police station, the girl was issued a medical form for examination. The outcome of the examination is yet to be disclosed.

In another story, Senior Chief Malemia in Nsanje has expressed concern over the prolonged delay by authorities in responding to the relocation of flood survivors in his area.

The senior chief expressed these sentiments on Friday to journalists at Mota Camp, where the Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) donated assorted food and non-food items to people affected by Cyclone Freddy.

He said Group Village Headmen Mpomba and Mambundungu had shown common interest in relocating to safer areas in the district.

"GVH Mpomba has shown commitment not to return to the flood-prone area again while Group Village Headman Mbango has also shown commitment to providing land for settlement," he said.

Senior Chief Malemia added that he furnished the office of the Nsanje District Commissioner with letters from the two group village heads, but the office has yet to acknowledge them.

Nsanje District Commissioner Dominic Mwandira acknowledged that he had received letters from Senior Chief Malemia on the issue of GVH Mpomba.

He attributed the delay to the resurfacing of a similar matter from Group Village Headman Mambundungu in the same area as Senior Chief Malemia.

"We had to revisit the area of GVH Mambundungu to get the letters from the duo GVHs' interest to relocate to go together to the Department of Disasters and Management Affairs (DoDMA)," he said.

The Nsanje District Chief added that in the case of a delay by GVH Mambundungu, his office will not hesitate to send the only available letter from GVH Mpomba.

Currently, Nsanje has over 41,000 households in 86 evacuation camps.
