Man killed, 9 injured in Lumbadzi road accident
One person has been killed and nine (9) others have been injured in a road accident that took place on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, in Lumbadzi, Lilongwe.
Malawi: One person has been killed and nine (9) others have been injured in a road accident that took place on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, in Lumbadzi, Lilongwe, writes Harris Raymond Kulemeka, MANA.
The accident happened along the road to Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Nkhalamba.
According to Lumbadzi Police Station Public Relations Officer Sergeant Felix Kwinyani, the deceased has been identified as Staphiel Chagwira, 38, of Malembe Village, Traditional Authority Chitukula in Lilongwe.
Kwinyani said: “The driver, Rodrick Zakaria, 22, of the same particulars as the deceased, was driving a Toyota Voxy Station Wagon Registration Number 6351 and was heading for the airport with 10 passengers on board.
“However, upon reaching the place of accident, the driver lost control of the vehicle as he was overtaking another vehicle which resulted in his vehicle swerving to the extreme side of the road where it overturned once.”
Chagwira suffered chest injuries as a result of the impact and died while receiving treatment at Kamuzu Central Hospital. The car was severely damaged.
Meanwhile, police in Lumbadzi are urging all road users, particularly drivers, to follow all traffic laws in order to avoid such accidents.
