Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Sodomizing 8-Year-Old Boy in Mzuzu

Mzuzu, Malawi-A 31-year-old man, Alpha Mwale, has been sentenced to ten years in prison with hard labour for sodomizing an 8-year-old boy, writes Constable Rose Chipyola, Mzuzu Police Station's Assistant Public Relations Officer.

The decision was made by the Senior Resident Magistrate Court in Mzuzu on May 12, 2023.

State prosecutor Inspector Aubry Maganga presented evidence that Mwale had sexual intercourse with a minor against the order of nature between December 2022 and January 2023 in Hill Top, Mzuzu City, enticing the victim with money and snacks.

Mwale pleaded not guilty to the charge of sodomy, contrary to Section 153(a) of the Penal Code. However, the state presented five witnesses who proved the case.

The convict pleaded for leniency, appealing to the fact that he was the breadwinner of his family and a first-time offender.

On the other hand, the state prosecutor, Inspector Maganga, asked for a stiffer penalty, stating that the crime was severe, and the victim would remain traumatized.

The Senior Resident Magistrate, Issah Maulidi, echoed the state's submissions and added that the offence committed was against the law, culture, and humanity. He sentenced Mwale to ten years in prison with hard labour.

The incident occurred in Hill Top, Mzuzu City, and was reported to the police by the victim's mother.

Mwale comes from Munkhokwe Village, Traditional Authority Malanda, in Nkhata Bay District.
