MCM Trains Northern Journalists on Professionalism & ATI

MZUZU, Malawi-The Media Council of Malawi (MCM) is conducting a training session for journalists based in the northern region of the country, aimed at enhancing media professionalism through adherence to the Code of Ethics and Access to Information (ATI) regulations, writes Tionge Hara.

The training is part of MCM's efforts to promote self-regulation and professionalism in the media industry and to contribute to a democratic and just society in Malawi.

The training sessions will cover a range of topics, including an understanding of Access to Information regulations, an ATI user guide, the role of journalists in promoting ATI, investigative reporting, and fighting corruption.

The facilitators for the training are Aubrey Chikungwa from the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) in Malawi, and Moses Kaufa from the Media Council of Malawi.

The training sessions will also focus on the role of journalists in fighting corruption, which remains a major challenge in Malawi.

According to the Corruption Perceptions Index 2021, Malawi ranks 103rd out of 180 countries, with a score of 34 out of 100.

The MCM is optimistic that the training will help to enhance the skills and knowledge of journalists in the northern region and contribute to the development of strong and ethical media in Malawi.
